The spirit is not a passive power that we can wield as we choose. The spirit is God, a being that requires that we submit ourselves to be led by him. Francis Chan

To fulfill Christ’s mission (collectively and individually), we must accept the activity of the Holy Spirit in the process.

The Christians life in all its aspects – intellectual and ethical, devotional and relational, upsurging in worship and outgoing in witness – is supernatural; only the spirit can initiate and sustain it. – J I Packer

John 16:7-11

The Holy Spirit is active in our conversion. Dead/Child/Share/Come and see

We cannot see, understand, or receive the gospel without the help of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is active in our transformation.

The Holy Spirit sanctifies us (sets us apart).

We need the Spirits power to make useful our practice of the spiritual disciplines.

2 Corinthians 3:18

Parent / deploy / remain in me

Jesus promised to be with us always.

We must remember the Holy Spirit has the primary role in making disciples.

Our role is to primacrily to trust, submit and obey.

1. Reflect – how has your understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit changed?

2. Ask. Is your life marked by a desire to be led by the Holy Spirit in all aspects of life?

3. Resist. You are not the Holy Spirit. As you do your job is to love, the Spirit’s job is to convict and change.
