Our Righteous Mind: Cultivating His Presence

Our Righteous Mind: Cultivating His Presence

Colossians 3:1-17

Point 1
Mind – The way we think directly influences the things we say and do.

There’s a war that we’re all engaged in. The battlefield that we’re all fighting for is in our mind.

[Luke 6:45] A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

What influences our mind?

[Acts 4:20] For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

Mind = Eyes + Ears + People of Influence

Point 2
Eyes – You are what you look at.

[Colossians 3:1] If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

What do you spend your time looking at?

  • The average person spends over 4 hours per day on their phone.
  • A person spends an average of 2 hours and 22 min on social media per day.
  • Adults (18+) spend an average of 4 hours and 46 min watching TV per day.

[Psalm 101:3] I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

Point 3
Ears – You are what you listen to.

The average person spends 4 1/2 hours per day listening to music.

Music is a teacher.

[Colossians 3:16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Point 4
People of Influence – You are the people you spend time with.

Who influences you?

[Proverbs 13:20] He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

[Proverbs 22:24] Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: [25] Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Who are you influencing?
There are people who are watching you and you influence the things they see and hear. Be an influence and not influenced.
